How Long will my Two Way Radio Batteries last?
All Power Works Two Way Radio Batteries come with a full one year warranty. The typical radio user can expect a longer life than that! See the differences in 2-Way Radio Battery chemistries below.
Ni-Cad batteries have the longest life span if they are
well taken care of. The best way to use them is to drain them
completely and then FULLY charge them. Customers who take good
care of their batteries have reported using them for up to 3 years.
Ni-MH batteries typically last 2-2.5 years. They are not as susceptible to memory effect as Ni-Cad Two-Way Radio batteries
Li-Ion batteries are much lighter weight and have higher amp hour ratings in the same size casing, but have the shortest life span. Typically they last 1.5 - 2 years.
course these numbers can vary widely depending on how the
radios are used so please take this as a general guideline. Many Fire Departments utilize Cadex Battery Analyzers to re-condition and erase memory effect.
It is also very important that you do not charge the battery while the radio is turned on. This has an effect of charging and drainng the batery at the same time. This will dramatically shorten the life of your battery!
