Two Way Radio Battery Basics
Understanding Two Way Radio Battery basics will help you realize optimal Two Way Radio Battery performance and longer life cycle from the Two Way Radio Batteries you purchase from Power Works.
Charge all new Two Way Radio Batteries for a full 12 hours before using. This is called Two Way Radio Battery initializing and is critical for you to obtain maximum battery capacity from your 2-Way Radio Batteries.
Ni-CAD (Nickel Cadmium) or Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) Two-Way Radio Batteries require 14-16 initializing hours.
Li-Ion (Lithium Ion) Two Way Radio Batteries require 1 to 2 additional hours after the charger light turns green for full initializing.
In order to maximize Two Way Radio Battery capacity and Two Way Radio Battery life cycle, new Two Way Radio Batteries should be stored in a well ventilated dry and cool location.
Two Way Radio Batteries stored under these conditions may be stored for up to 2 years for Ni-Cad (Nickel Cadmium), 18 months for Ni-MH (Nickel Metal Hydride) and
18 months for Li-Ion (Lithium Ion) Two Way Radio Batteries.
If used Two Way Radio Batteries are removed from service for extended periods, greater than 30 days, they should be discharged to 50% of their capacity before storage.
Two Way Radio Batteries that have been in storage for more than two months should be fully discharged and recharged.
Leaving a fully charged Two Way Radio and Battery in the charger after it is fully charged can cause shortened battery life. If at all possible do not use the Two Way Radio Charger as a radio stand.
It is always best to fully charge a Two Way Radio and then to discharge it completely before charging it again. This helps prevent the Two Way Radio Battery for developing a “memory effect”.
